The Hopkins boys’ basketball team’s four-game winning streak came to a sudden halt Friday night, but it really wasn’t a surprise.
The Vikings lost 82-58 to Wyoming Godwin Heights, the No. 3 team this week in the Associated Press Class B poll, now undefeated in its eight contests this season.
Godwin wasted little time in taking control of the ballgame, streaking out to a 26-17 lead at the end of the first quarter and enjoying a 43-29 cushion at intermission. The Wolverines were not threatened afterward.
Senior guard Ryan Pierce continued his fine play of late by scoring 17 points to lead Hopkins. Senior forward Tyler Schulz added a dozen points, Grant Stevens and Jake Sytsma both had nine and Jake Saap eight.
Delaney Blalock scored 18 points and Leon Redd 17 to pace the Wolverines.
Hopkins now has a 4-6 record overall for the campaign and is 2-1 in the O-K Silver Conference.
