The Hopkins boys’ bowling team lost in the quarterfinal round of match play Friday in the state championships at Northway Lanes in Muskegon.
The Vikings lost by 10 pins, 1,253 to 1,243 to Corunna, the eventual state runner-up. They were seeded third in the final round of eight in the tournament.
Jonesville defeated Corunna in the final match to capture the state crown.
Hopkins finished third in the qualifying round with 3,307 pins knocked down in eight Baker games and two regular matches. Richmond had the highest total with 3,329.
The Vikings had scores of 134, 172, 170, 163, 176, 216, 186 and 175 in the Bakers and 990 and 925 in the two match games.
None of the Hopkins bowlers qualified for the final round in the individual competition.
Junior Brenden Gossman finished 21st and senior Zach Mohr 22nd. Senior Drew Osborn was 30th and senior Mikee Schumacher 33rd.
Gossman’s scores were 182, 166, 233, 182, 236 and 188 for a total of 1187. Mohr rolled 223, 182, 221, 179, 195 and 184 for 1184. Osborn’s scores were 215, 193, 190, 172, 211 and 156 for 1167. Schumacher bowled 187, 171, 229, 148, 220 and 200 for 1155.
Hopkins last week captured its first-ever regional championship at M-66 Lanes in Battle Creek.
