The Hopkins boys’ cross-country team was one point shy of taking first place in the first O-K Silver Conference jamboree of the season Wednesday at the South Christian athletic complex.

The Viking girls, meanwhile, tied for second with Grandville Calvin Christian with 64 points behind Fruitport’s 48.

Junior Allison Breining paced the Lady Vikings with a fourth-place finish in 21:50.95. Veteran senior Kambria Moored was eighth, sophomore Lillian Dewey was 10th, freshman Shyanna Buskirk was 19th and Navaya Ingle was 24th.

Belding was the team that edged the Hopkins boys by a single point, 57 to 58.

Junior Jack Estelle captured third place with a 5K time of 16:42.45. Freshman Kash Moored took fifth in 18:15.02, senior Kenyon Katje was seventh in 19:17.21, sophomore Isaiah Robinson was 16th and sophomore Gavin Schans was 27th, just beating out teammate Ryan Williams by a little more than a second.
