The Hopkins boys’ varsHopkins Vikings Logoity basketball team notched its first victory of the season Friday, 69-44, at Wyoming Lee.

A torrid second half propelled the Vikings to the victory. They trailed 15-14 and 26-25 after the first two periods, but went on a 22-8 run in the third and 22-10 in the fourth.

Hopkins picked up the intensity on defense and finished off the first half with a big slam dunk from Jake Sapp.

“We allowed way too much dribble penetration in the first half, so we changed some things at half defensively and it seemed to work for us” said coach Darrin Smith.

Sapp had a monster game with 30 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots.

“Jake had his best high school game tonight and we needed him to take control like he did,” commented Smith.

Curtis O’Patic added 10 points for the Vikings. Samuel Beene led Lee with 12.

The Vikings improved their overall season record to 1-5 and they now are 1-0 in the O-K Silver Conference.
