Viking girls 2nd at Allegan Invite, Wayland boys 4th

The Hopkins girls’ varsity cross-country team was runner-up Saturday at the Allegan Invitational at the Allegan County Fairgrounds.

The Wayland boys finished fourth among 10 teams and the Hopkins boys were eighth. Once again, the Wayland girls did not score because they included only four runners.

Senior leader Jaeden Harshberger led the way for the Lady Vikings with a fifth-place finish and a five-kilometer time of 20:23.7. Only three individual female harriers ran faster than 20 minutes in the race.

Junior Kambria Moored checked in 10th in 21:19.8, and fast-improving sophomore Allison Breining was 12th in 21:54.1. Senior Elliot Antel was 13th and Megan Stack checked in 25th and Sarah Osborn 30th.

Freshmen Lillian Dewey and Sutton Collier also completed the 5,000 meters.

Wayland junior Dylan Pallett broke 17 minutes to finish third in 16:59.5. Teammate Isaac Dyer was ninth in 17:25.4 and freshman Xander Stepek was 19th in 17:59.6.

Viking ace Jack Estelle, a sophomore, took sixth place with a time of 17:20.6, followed by teammates Kenyon Katje and Isaiah Robinson  in 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

The Grand Rapids Track Club Peregrines won the girls’ team race and Plainwell took the boys’ race.
