The Hopkins girls’ varsity track team will take a 5-1 dual meet record into the O-K Silver Conference meet Friday at Belding and the boys are 4-2.

Both teams lost to Belding in a double dual Monday, but defeated Kelloggsville. The girls’ loss to Belding was their first in league action this spring.

Highlighting the competition again was the dual between Viking freshman Logan Klinge and junior Trey Collins in the pole vault. Both eclipsed Collins’ school record performance at the Hopkins Invitational by clearing 13-1.75. Collins was determined to be the winner with fewer misses.

But the Viking boys were done in again by sprints, as they lost 91-46 to the Black Knights.

Brady Bockheim copped a first against Kelloggsville in the open 400 with a time of 56.21 seconds.

Junior distance ace Todd Henley was first over Rocket opponents in the 800, clocking in at 2:09.95. He beat all comers in the 3200 with a time of 10:46.48, almost a minute better than his nearest rival.

Klinge was first against Belding in the 110-meter hurdles, but was edged by Carlos Marcelo of Kelloggsville by two-tenths of a second.

Hunter Braford, Jason Sapp, Bockheim and Quentin Prather won the 400 relay against Kelloggsville. Jacob Pastoor, Dan Rausch, Nolan Hugmeyer and Francesco Leo did the same in the 1600-relay and Pastoor, Trevor Shealy, Dravyn Rooks and Evan Hoffer won the 3200 relay over the Rockets.

Freshman Tanner Neuman threw the shot 41 feet even to claim first and teammate sophomore Trevor Long tossed his 40-09 for second. Hopkins’ Nathan Tew was first in the discus at 110-9.

Lady Vikings junior Evangelina Helderop won the open 200-meter dash by ant two and a half seconds. A first-year trickster better known for basketball, she won the 400-meter run with a time 63.24 seconds.

Emma Helder beat everybody in the open 800. Jasmine Fisher beat K-ville in the 1600 and in the 3200.

Olivia Barry was second overall in the 100-meter hurdles and freshman Alex Jackson topped Kelloggsville opponents in the 300 hurdles.

The Lady Vikings’ 3200 relay team of Fisher, Alyssa Beilby, Mary Wells and Helder was first overall. Also winning over K-ville in relays were Jackson, Anna Washburn, Kelsey Dusseau and Paris Corneille in the 400; Cassidy Finney, Jackson, Savannah Emaus and Helderop, and Helder, Finney, Lauren Brown and Helderop in the 1600.

Hopkins’ Shannon Henshaw threw the shot 31-10.75 to beat everybody and teammate Grace Brenner was second. Henshaw also won the discus and teammate Faith Roys was second. Barry beat Rocket foes in the high jump.

Emaus won the long jump at 14-10.5 and beat K-ville in the 100.
