Kennedy n JosieThe Hopkins girls’ and boys’ track teams kicked off their OK-Silver Conference seasons Tuesday afternoon with dual meet victories over Kelloggsville.

The Lady Vikings won big, 101-27, while boys took an 82-54 decision.

Individual winners for the day for the Hopkins girls were:

  • Nicole Opolski, shot put (30’2″).
  • Bailey Ballard, discus (109’3″) and 100-meter hurdles (19.6 seconds).
  • Julia Forbes, long jump (14’10.5″) and 100-meter dash, (12.79 seconds).
  • Kennedy Miedema, pole vault (6′) and 300-meter hurdles (51.4).
  • Rachael Weber 1600-meter run (6:03) and 800 (2:42.85).
  • Nicole Pavlak, 400 (1:04.6).
  • Megan Heft, 3200 (15:39).

Miedema, Julia Forbes handoffHeft, Josie Freybler and Weber took the 3200-meter relay. Ellen Bregg, Forbes, Freybler and Ballard hooked up win the 800 relay. Miedema, Forbes, Freybler and Samantha Ludlam combined efforts to capture first in the 1600 relay.

The guys’ meet was closer, the Vikings prevailed, largely on the strength of running, hurdles and relay performances.

Individual winners were:

  • Nick Schoonveld, high jump (5’4).
  • Hayden Graczyk, long jump (17’11.5″).
  • Michael Francis – 110m Hurdles (17.18).
  • Isaac Kukulies – 400m (58.08).
  • Cyrus Miner – 300m Hurdles (46.74).
  • Jared Coad – 800m (2:13.9).
  • Anthony Steffens – 200m (24.09).
  • Kukulies, Jason Rietman, Tim Smit and Coad won the 3200 relay; Timm, Graczyk, Stegeman and Steffens won the 800 relay; Timm, Graczyk, Stegeman and Nick Schoonveld were first in the 400 relay and Kukulies, Garcia, Baldreich, and Coad took the 1600 relay.
