The Wayland girls’ varsity cross-country team Wednesday afternoon checked in third in the Wayland Invitational. The boys team finished ninth.

Martin checked in sixth in the boys’ competition and Hopkins was eighth. The Hopkins girls came in fifth.

Hopkins ace senior harrier Todd Henley was runner-up in the individual race with a five-kilometer time of 16:57.05. Martin junior Carsen Young turned in a creditable performance, taking 15^th in 19:00.43.

Rounding out Martin’s group were junior Kyle Pallett 29^th, sophomore Eli Dykstra 38^th, sophomore Charley Martin 40^th and sophomore Cole Altman 58^th.

Checking in behind Henley for the Vikings were sophomore Adam Ball 48^th, senior Andrew Hazen 56^th, freshman Dean Heiden 73^rd, sophomore Zachary Wisser 75^th and freshman Jamie Barker 78^th.

Freshman Travis Koon led the Wildcat boys in 30^th place at 20:13.88, followed by senior Ian Russell 39^th, senior Steven Mosher 44^th, sophomore Sam Garheded 71^st and senior Tyler Calkins 72^nd.

Allegan won the team competition with 60 points, Hamilton had 66 and Hudsonville Unity Christian and the Grand Rapids Track Club tied for third at 82.

Freshman Olivia Barabas led Wayland again by taking sixth place in 22:30.22 and right behind her in seventh was senior co-captain Gracie Hasse in 22:32.56. Sophomore Hannah Smith was 15^th, sophomore Serenna VanHouten was 25^th and freshman Emma Thayer 39^th.

Senior Alyssa Beilby led the Lady Vikings with a time of 23:48.98, good for 14^th place. She was followed by freshman Hannah Fisher in 16^th, junior Alexis Zalis in 23^rd, sophomore Mary Wells 24^th and junior Astrid Baandrup 51^st.

Hamilton won the girls’ team trophy with 32 points, Hudsonville Unity had 56 and Wayland 75.

The Lady Wildcats thus far this season have been running without their top harrier, Rylee Cronkright because of a medical issue.
