Viking lads suffer 1st loss, girls still perfect

The Hopkins boys’ track team absorbed its first dual meet loss in the O-K Silver Conference Tuesday, but the girls’ squad remained undefeated this season.

Both teams were competing in the latest league quad. The boys bested Kelloggsville 102-33 and Comstock Park 110-22, but lost 73.5 to 63.5 to host Belding. The girls defeated Comstock Park 110 to 8, Belding 90-45 and Kelloggsville 104 to 8.

So the girls now are 6-0 in Silver duals and the guys stand at 5-1.

Riley Homrich enabled Hopkins to dominate the sprints, winning the 100-meter dash with a personal best time in 12.64 seconds. Navaya Ingle crossed the line first in the 200 at 28.79 seconds and she won the open 400 in 1:05.28.

Lillian Dewey, only a sophomore, was first in the 800 in 2:43.98 and Peyton Harshberger and Myah Duimstra completed a sweep by going 2-3. Dewey came back to claim first in 1600-meter run.

Kambria Moored captured first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.20 seconds. Moored also took the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 49.10 seconds.

The 400-meter relay quartet of Annika Ford, Moored, Ellarie Baugh and Homrich defeated all comers by nearly five seconds with a 50.64 clocking.

Ford, Ava VanderVeen, Ingle and Andrea Brower hooked up to win the 800 relay in 1:52.56.

Keilah Bonga won the short put with a toss of 30-1 and she took the discus with a throw of 109-5.

Peyton Harshberger won the high jump at 4-6 and she was second to Baugh’s 15-2 in the long jump.

For the guys’ competition, Jacob Helder won the 400-meter dash in 53.26 seconds.

Jack Estelle took first place in the 1600-meter run in 4:41.16 and

He came back later to cross the line first in the 3200 in 10:21.90, beating the runner-up by just five-hundredths of a second.

Clayton Kerber won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.78 seconds and freshman Luke Kling was second. Kerber also won the 300 intermediates in 42.2 seconds.

Hopkins relay teams in the 400, 800 and 1600 all finished in second place.

Vijay Deezeuw came away with the win in the high jump by clearing 5-8.

Luke Klinge remained undefeated in the pole vault, this time clearing 12-6.
