Both the Hopkins varsity boys’ and girls’ track teams had a successful dual meet debut Tuesday with victories over O-K Silver Conference rival Calvin Christian.

The boys prevailed 81-56 and the girls 86-45.

The Viking boys trailed 22-10 after the first four events, but then kicked it into high gear in field events and distance runs.

Two individual standouts both recorded three firsts during the day.

Freshman sensation Logan Klinge pole vaulted 11-6 to win that event and took both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. Junior distance ace Todd Henley showed mid-season form win winning the 800-meter run in 2:14.9, the 3200 in 10:35.4 and the 1600 in 5:00.7.

The Vikings took both the sprint relays, the 400 nd 800, and Nathan Tew won the discus. Trey Collins captured first in the long jump at 19-8 and Long won the shot put.

Savannah Emaus continued her impressive spring for the Lady Vikings with firsts in the 100-meter dash (13.5 seconds), the long jump (15-6) and pole vault (8-6). Junior newcomer Evangelina Helderop won the open 400 in 1:06 and the 200 in 28.7 seconds.

Senior Jasmine Fisher was first in the 3200 at 12:58.1, Lauren Brown the 300 hurdles, Shannon Henshaw in the discus, Barry in the 100 hurdles and Grace Brenner in the shot.

The Lady Vikings also claimed firsts in the 400- and 3200-meter relay races.
