Hopkins defeated NorthPointe Christian 5-4 Wednesday in extra innings to take over first place in the O-K Silver Conference.
The thrilling win avenged a 1-0 loss to the Mustangs earlier this spring and brought the Vikings’ league record to 8-1. They are 12-3-1 overall.
The game was tied at four with Hopkins batting in the bottom of the eighth Ethan Nagel was induced to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Hopkins took an early lead in the first inning on a single by Brenden Gossman.
Cameron Kennedy earned the win on the mound. He tossed one clean inning.
Zach Brechting started the game for Hopkins, pitching six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, five hits, and striking out ten.
Hopkins had six hits in the game. Gossman and James Wubben both had two.
