Vikings beat Sparta 10-2, but game 2 postponed

Hopkins bested O-K Silver Conference rival Sparta 10-2 Monday afternoon, but game two of the doubleheader has to be called off because of approaching inclement weather.

The victory lifted the Vikings’ season record to 22-6 and they are 10-1 in league play. They probably will have to play the nightcap against Sparta Wednesday.

Hopkins opened the scoring in the first inning when Ava Vanderkolk tripled in the game’s first run.

An error, and a passed ball helped Hopkins extend its lead to 2-0 in the second frame.

The Vikings scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth. Madison Schwartz doubled, scoring one run, Lyla Reynolds drew a walk, scoring another run, Hannah Brinks singled, scoring one run, and Jessi Spray singled, scoring two.

Brinks earned the pitching win, giving up five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three.

Schwartz and Reynolds both collected two hits for Hopkins. Spray went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.

The Vikings came up with eight walks and six stolen bases. for the game.
