The Hopkins varsity boys’ basketball team lifted its overall season record to 2-1 with hard-earned 50-42 victory at Kent City.

The Vikings suffered through a slow start, but then their fortunes improved near the end of the first quarter and extended into the second.

“We picked up our intensity and started to play much better as a team on both ends of the floor,” explained coach Jake Jewett.

Hopkins in the fourth period had to fend off a late surge by Kent City to seal the victory.

Tristen Perry led all scorers with 19 points, followed by 10 from Trent Baugh.

The Vikings play next on Thursday at West Michigan Aviation Academy.
