The Hopkins varsity baseball team beat NorthPointe Christian 7-1 Monday after a four-run explosion in the fourth inning.
Hopkins scored in the fourth on a two-run single by Alex Steffes, an RBI single by Zach Brechting, and a sacrifice fly by Terry Thomas.
James Wubben paced the Vikings at the plate. He went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the fifth and seventh innings. The game was never in doubt after the second, as Hopkins scored two runs in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Wubben and an RBI single by Steffes.
Brechting kept contact to a minimum, striking out 13 NorthPointe Christian batters. Brechting allowed just one earned run, four hits and four walks over seven innings.
The Vikings now are 6-6-1 on the season overall.
