The Hopkins boys’ varshunter-llewellynity basketball team recorded its second straight victory and moved its O-K Silver Conference record to 2-0 Tuesday with a 57-49 victory over visiting Belding.

The Vikings stepped up their three-point shooting, nailing six treys, en route to the triumph.

Hunter Lewellyn swished a couple of of long-range bombs and led Hopkins with 18 points. Brandon DeGroot also had a pair of threes and finished with eight points. Mason Schaendorf added another.

After the two teams battled to a 15-15 deadlock in the first eight minutes, Hopkins outgunned the visitors 16-9 to mount a 31-24 lead at the half. The Redskins pulled to within three, 41-38, at the end of three periods, but the home team pulled away in the final eight minutes.

Hopkins now is 3-4 overall on the basketball season.
