The Hopkins varsity baseball team now has an overall record of 8-6 after defeating O-K Silver Conference rival Kelloggsville 5-1 Wednesday and 8-3 Monday.
Trailing 1-0 early in Wednesday’s game, the Vikings pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI single by Ezran Tehennepe.
James Wubben secured the victory on the pitcher’s mound. He went five innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out seven. Cameron Kennedy threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last six outs to earn the save.
Tyler Zomerlei had two hits in four at bats.
Hopkins nabbed the lead late in the game in Monday’s victory over Kelloggsville. The game was tied at 3-3 with Hopkins batting in the bottom of the fifth when Brenden Gossman singled home one run. Ethan Nagel and Braden Gill each had RBIs in the frame.
Gossman got the win on the hill in relief. He allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings.
Zomerlei started the game for Hopkins Vikings Varsity. He surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out seven.
James Wubben and Gossman both collected multiple hits for the Vikings.
