mason-schaendorfThe Hopkins varsity football team lifted its overall season record to 3-5 and O-K Silver Conference mark to 2-3 Friday evening with a 52-8 victory over Wyoming Lee.

The Vikings struck for three touchdowns in their first three possessions. Cyrus Miner tallied a 17-yard TD and quarterback Nolan Smith picked up the two-point conversion to open the scoring. Ryan Havemen scored from five yards out and Mason Schaendorf from eight yards.

Hopkins added three more touchdowns in the second period on a four-yard run by Caleb Ryan, a one-yard plunge by Logan Blank and an eight-yard run by Mason Schaendorf. Lineman Terry Thomas added a kicked extra point to one of the TDs, so the Vikings enjoyed a 39-8 cushion at intermission.

Schaendorf added a 25-yard TD run in the third quarter to extend the advantage to 45-8 and Brandon Degroot scored from five yards out in the fourth period to finish the scoring for the evening.

Schaendorf finished the evening with with 114 yards rushing in 12 carries. Thomas had six tackles on defense and one sack behind the line of scrimmage.
