The Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team came up with a thrilling 60-59 victory at Wyoming Lee Friday night to improve its overall season record to 4-7 and its O-K Silver Conference mark to 3-3.

Senior Justin Weick nailed a free throw with 1.1 seconds left to break a 59-59 deadlock and deliberately missed the second of a one-and-one to seal the victory. The Rebels, because of the missed second attempt, could not have the clock stopped for a last-ditch attempt at a three-point goal.

Hopkins was led by in scoring by sophomore Hunter Lewellyn with 16 points, followed by Weick with 13. Sophomore Nolan Smith counted nine points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Freshmen Drew Weber and Tyler Zomerlie had eight points apiece for a balanced Vikings’ attack.

Hopkins will be at home to be host to Plainwell in a nonleague contest Tuesday evening.
