Vikings win homecoming; Wildcats fall to 2-2 overall

Hopkins had a most satisfying homecoming football game Friday night while pushing its overall season record to 3-1.

Wayland, meanwhile, lost 35-16 to an undefeated Forest Hills Eastern outfit that has averaged better than 40 points per game in its four victories. The Wildcats now are 2-2 for the season overall and 0-2 in the O-K Gold Conference.

The Vikings once again had no trouble putting points up on the scoreboard in 48-8 merry romp over winless Kelloggsville. They have scored 148 points in four games this season and have posted three consecutive victories since losing their season opener at Wayland.

Hopkins scored first in the opening quarter and tacked on a TD and two-point conversion on the first play of the second period. The visiting Rockets then scored a touchdown and two-point conversion to bring it to 14-8, but that’s as close as the score would get for the rest of the night.

The Vikings answered with a two TDs and a two-point PAT to mount a 28-8 advantage at intermission. They came up with three touchdowns and two kicked PATs in the second half.

Hopkins will hit the road next Friday to take on Comstock Park in an O-K Gold Conference  encounter.

Wayland will play next Friday at Kenowa Hills.
