Village of Martin can’t use volunteer crossing guards

The Village of Martin has been notified that it cannot use volunteer crossing guards until they complete proper crossing guard training.

“Please know that we are working hard to get this resolved and get them the proper training to follow all laws and rules,” a village official said. “We are working as quickly as we can to get them back out there. We will be sure to update you as soon as we have more information to share.”

Rick Martin said, “The State of Michigan has a certification ruling for the training of adult crossing guards. The (Allegan County) deputy was teaching me the rules and for that I am very grateful. We have gotten the certification info and I am certified now and the other two volunteers will be certified tomorrow.

“I’m not sure if you have noticed but Allegan County Sheriff vehicles have been VERY visible in the last month. They have our backs and again for that we are very grateful. To set the record straight.…. Your crossing guards will be helping the children cross, we will not be directing traffic. I have had several friends on the Allegan Police force, They are doing us a great job!

Thanks to the deputy who called me this morning and helped me to understand what I needed to do, If you want to beat up on somebody give to me, not them.”
