Burnips native Donald Bonney’s visitation Friday

Donald Bonney of Kentwood, a native of Burnips, died Thursday, May 13. He was 90.

He grew up in various cities throughout Michigan and graduated from Kalkaska High School, where he played baseball, basketball and football. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 and retired from Steelcase Inc. in 1987 after 37.5 years.

Don was friendly, outgoing and excelled at sports and especially enjoyed golf, bowling, baseball, hunting and fishing. He was able to bowl regularly up until just a few months before his 90th birthday. He was also a long-time Little League coach.

He enjoyed camping and taking road trips, which usually involved a stop for ice cream.

He is survived by his daughter, Terry (Mike) Wildfong; son, Richard (Brenda) Bonney, long-time companion Penny Weaver; grandchildren, Tiffany, Nathanael, Jeremiah, Bethany and Lydia Bonney; and great grandchild, Megan Klaassen.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roma and Ceylon Bonney, infant daughter Sandra Kay Bonney, and estranged wife, (ReVella) Yvonne Bonney.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 21 at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave, SE, Grand Rapids.
