Visitation June 26 for Bill the Barber

Bill (The Barber) Standish died Friday, June 6, at Stanford Lodge Care Center in Plainwell. 

He was born April 25, 1939, one of five children to Eliza and RD Standish of Wayland, where he grew up. After attending barber school, he became established and known for owning the Otsego Barber Shop where he worked for more than 40 years, giving many local kids their first haircuts and serving his many customers throughout their lives. 

Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed motorcycle riding, skeet shooting, mushroom hunting and many outdoor hobbies.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda (Brooks) Standish in 2020 after 59 years of marriage and many adventures together. 

Surviving are his son, Rick (Anna) Standish of Louisville, KY and daughter, Kristina (Joel) Spitzner of Otsego, two grandchildren, Jake (Erika) Spitzner and Adam (Ashley) Spitzner, all of Otsego; four great-grandchildren; brother Bob (Sue) Standish of Wayland, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with Bill’s family from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with a private burial to be held at a later date.
