Was it “deja vu all over again?”

The Wayland girls’ basketball team lost in overtime for the second time this season, 61-60, to Cedar Springs Wednesday night, bringing its overall season record to 4-5 and evening its O-K Gold Conference record at 1-1.

The Lady Wildcats, just like in their season opener against Caledonia, led late in the game, only to have their opponents tie it up and win in the extra session. They were up by nine points in the fourth period before Cedar drilled three consecutive three-point field goals to knot the count and send the contest into overtime.

Junior Harmony Laker scored a career-high 32 points during the evening, nailing three threes. No other Wildcat was in double figures, but Ainsworth chipped in eight points and Reese Coughlin five, all on free throws.

Cedar Springs entered the game with an overall record of 6-1 and is now 1-1 in league play, having lost to Kenowa Hills.

The Wayland boys’ squad lost at home to Cedar Springs, 60-53, and saw its overall record slip to 1-8.
