The Watson Township Board Thursday evening voted to rent out the township hall to local residents for $60 and doubled the fee to $120 for non-residents.

The hall now will be available to residents at least 21 years old who apply to township representative Michelle Harrris, also a trustee on the Township Board, on a first-come, first served basis.

The arrangement marks the first time the township has spelled out requirements for use of the hall for reunions, clubs, graduation parties and other events.

In other business at the meeting, the board:

• Approved a lease agreement for $750 with Allen Henrickson for farming a 10-acre parcel near the corner of 20th Street and M-222. The township eventually would like to use the property for some kind of public park.

The township will pay $780 total for cultivation, packing, plowing, smoothing and planting grass and hayseed.

• Was notified by Treasurer Stephanie Caulder that the federal American Rescue Plan fund currently stands at $105,047 while the general fund includes a little more than $419,000.

• Noted there will be two Watson ballot proposals in the Aug. 2 primary election. One will be for a township-wide curbside recycling program to replace the bins adjacent to township hall, and the other will be for a two-mill renewal for roads. Supervisor Kevin Travis acknowledged repaving is being done on 118th Avenue to the culvert and on 120th Avenue.

• Acknowledged that students from the Michigan Career and Technical Institute put together a sign fof the township hall and will have it painted.
