The Watson Township Board Thursday evening unanimously adopted a resolution approving an ordinance amendment to rezone property near Wetherall Lake.

The request was rezone 27.48 acres at 1348 Lakewood Lane, which Supervisor Kevin Travis characterized as a “party spot for Martin High School students” in days gone by.

The parcel previously had been zone A-2, rural conservation, and now will be residential, or B-2. The rezoning had been recommended by the Township Planning Commission at its August meeting.

In other business Thursday night, the board:

  • Learned from Trevor Beilby of the Hopkins Area Fire District that it had received a $10,600 grant related to the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.
  • Heard Beilby say the HAFD plans to be out and about on Halloween night Oct. 31 because, “We know a lot of kids will be out trick or treating (despite the Coronavirus threat).”
  • Was visited virtually by Bret Padgett, area representative from the Michigan Townships Association, who serves as treasurer for Comstock Township.
