The Watson Township Board TRoad paving2hursday evening agreed to have 122nd Avenue paved at a cost of $365,736.

The lowest bid was from Reith-Reilly Construction.

The board originally wrestled with the notion that cost overruns potentially could bring the final cost to just over $400,000, but the request from Reith-Reilly was for timely payment of the $365,000.

The board agreed to make that payment, but anything over that would have to be brought before the board and explained.

Former Watson Township Clerk Kathy Pardee told the board, “There’s a lot of stuff they do wrong, and we get the short end of the stick… We’ve seen some shoddy work.”

Pardee suggested the township be given some kind of warranty for the work.

Trustee Rod Zeinstra insisted that a warranty be included in the motion to hire Reith-Reilly to do the paving.

In another matter, the board voted unanimously to seek a renewal of one mill in the August primary election to pay for dust control services. The levy would apply to each of the next four years.
