Watson Twp. appoints Dan Bailey to Plan Commission

Donald Bailey was appointed to the Watson Township Planning Commission Thursday evening.

Bailey will succeed Dave Carter, who had been chairman of the group before an nouncing earlier this year that he had to step down.

Township Supervisor Pam Brown said Bailey has been a resident of the township for 15 years, has been a Hopkins firefighter, is an emergency medical technician (EMT) with the Wayland Area Ambulance Service and is a volunteer coach in the Martin school system.

Bailey will fill out the remainder of Carter’s term and decide for himself after that if he wants to continue.

In other matters that came before the Watson Board Thursday night:

  • The township has renewed contracts for $1,177.43 with the Michigan Townships Association and its annual $1,000 contribution to the J.C. Wheeler Library in Martin.
  • The board agreed to spend $34,807.50 for this year’s graveling with 3,250 cubic yards, awarding the bid to R. Smith & Sons of Allegan. The amount is just about the same as last year and the greatest attention will go to 14th Street and 21st Street. Completion date has been set at Aug. 30.
  • The board voted to make a $1,000 contribution to the annual Fourth of July celebration in Hopkins, mostly to cover costs of fireworks.
