Wayland Middle School eighth-grader Evie Mathis has broken the high school pole vault record, and she’s not even in high school yet.
The daughter of Rick and Cindy Mathis cleared 11 feet, 6 inches at a middle school meet Wednesday afternoon and in the process now is tied for best performance in the entire state of Michigan for middle schoolers.
Mathis cleared 11-6 in an indoor meet this past winter and Wednesday’s milestone effort enabled her to surpass any feat by any Wildcat high school female in history.
Wow! That is very impressive. Congratulation, Evie.
