Wayland boys capture 1st win of bowling season

free-bowling-clipart-xcgjazecaThe Wayland boys’ varsity bowling squad came up with its first victory of the season, a 17-13 verdict over Wyoming at Airport Lanes.

“Tonight was in honor of the seniors as, Michael Foley, our only senior anchored our team to its first win,” noted coach Sherry Miklusicak.

Wayland was up 10-0 after two Baker games. Game one was 145-122, with Foley striking out in the tenth frame. Game two was a little better, 152-133.

“Even though we won both Baker games, we still have about 25-30 pins we need to improve on,” the coach added. “I’m feeling pretty confident with our best start of the season.”

The Wildcats, however, only took one point out of nine in game one. The little lone point winner was Jordan Peters, 160-136. Dylan Smith lost his point by a single pin. They were still up 11-8, but a little nervous because Wyoming had finished with strong ninth and tenth frames.

“Well, losing that point by a single pin ignited sophomore Dylan Smith, who came back with a 225 game ensuring the additional four points for total for game two as well.”

Foley assisted with a 179 game.

“We will need to focus on those final frames and fighting ’til the last ball!” Miklusicak said.

Wayland is still battling with lack of experience, having its top four bowlers from last year graduate. The team’s record now is 1-3.
