It’s one thing to say somebody did a really good job, it means even more if the employee is compensated.

Wayland City Treasurer Cheri ParrCheri Parrishish received more than what she asked for in taking over interim city manager duties between the time Mike Selden left and when Tim McLean came on board. Parrish served in that capacity, besides handling the treasurer’s duties, between Nov. 23 and Jan. 4.

Parish officially asked for $1,000 for her extra efforts, but city officials determined she put in more time and work than she indicated. So the City Council Monday night rewarded her with twice what she requested.

“I think she deserves more than what she’s proposed,” said Councilwoman Tracy Bivins. “I think she deserves two grand.”

It was noted that former Treasurer Bhama Cairns was paid $2,058 for her interim city manager work several years ago. Cairns resigned abruptly late in 2012 and was replaced by Parrish.

New City Manager Tim McLean said he concurred with the move, asserting she did a good job and “She’s helped make my transition here much easier.”
