The Wayland girlReverse Wildcat logos’ bowling team finished seventh in the 10-team Zeeland Invitational Baker Tournament.

“It was a late add to our schedule and a very early start,” coach Bill Holbrook said. ” The bus left school at 5:45 a.m. and bowling started at 7.

“We were also short handed as four of the girls were unable to make it.  So we went to the tournament with two freshmen, two sophomores, one junior and two foreign exchange students.  Not our normal line-up but they all performed very well.”

The Lady Wildcats averaged 144 for the day with a high individual game of 176.

Wayland rolled a combined score of 1444, 10 pins behind Hudsonville Unity Christian, a team the Wildcats tied earlier in the week i9n a dual match. Zeeland West/East won the tourney with 1771 and Grand Haven was runner-up with 1759.

“An entire tournament of Baker games was a new experience for them and they managed limited frames very well!” Holbrook said. “All in all a very good day!”

Wayland is preparing for two more important conference matches Tuesday against South Christian at Spectrum Lanes and Thursday will be the team’s first home match in more than a month against the visiting Ottawa Hills team.

The boys’ team, meanwhile, also finished seventh in the 10-team field, rolling a combined 1602. Rockford won it with 1892.
