The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team concluded the season with a 14-9 overall record Friday evening with a 58-41 loss to Grand Rapids South Christian in the Division 2 district tournament finals.

It was the third time this season the Lady Wildcats have lost to South Christian, a rival in the O-K Gold Conference, which now has a 13-10 overall mark.

Wayland led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter, but the Sailors outgunned the visiting five 17-7 to take a 24-15 advantage at intermission.

Junior pivot Stephanie Ainsworth led the ‘Cats with 21 points, but she was the only player to score in double figures. Parrish Hudson and Kenzie Wolf both added five points.
