The Wayland girls’ varsity track team earned first place in a non-conference tri-meet at Wyoming High School Monday afternoon.
The Lady Wildcats scored 68 total points to outdistance the host schools, which had 64, and North Pointe Christian, which checked in with 39.
The Wildcat boys finished second in the same meet with 69 points, behind Wyoming’s 82, but ahead of NorthPointe’s 15.
Kennedy Richardson had a solid opening day by capturing firsts in both the 100-meter high hurdles in 19.31 seconds and the 300-meter low hurdles in 55.58 seconds.
Sydney Couturier also took first in the high jump at 4-8.
Two relay teams crossed the finish line first. Rachel Zywicynski, Couturier, Richardson and Dav-Lynn Buttner hooked up to win the 1600-meter relay in 4:48.03. Couturier, Riley Shepherd, Brittany Ludwig and Brooke Mulder took the 3200 relay in 13:00.63.
Runner-up individual finishes were turned in by freshman Jaznae Randall in the 100-meter dash, Mulder in the discus, Buttner in the pole vault and second and third place winners in the same event were Buttner and Zywiczysnki in the 200, and freshmen Anna Kidwell and Abigail Hasse in the 400.
Justin Fleser took first in the open 400 (56.7), as did Perry Carter in both the 1600 (5:07.67) and the 3200 (11:10.29). Carter also won the pole vault at 11-6 and McCarty Carpenter won the discus at 105-3 and was second in the shot put.
Fleser, Jeremy Pletcher, Devin Rosewarne and Landen Merren combined efforts to take first in the 1600 replay (3:57.63) and Carter, Pletcher, Trent Thelen and Carson Nieuwenhuis breezed to victory in the 3200 relay. Avery Lindsey, Mason Miller, Eric Villareal and and Jacob Henderson crossed the line first in the 800 relay.
