The Wayland High School boys’ varsity cross-country team came in seventh among 16 schools in the Division 2 regionals at South Christian.
Junior Dylan Pallett finished 15th individually in the race to qualify for the state finals Saturday, Nov. 4, at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. It is the second straight year he will run the state meet. Also qualifying were Hopkins senior Jaeden Harshberger, who was 14th in 20:34.47 and Hopkins sophomore Jack Estelle, who was 20th in 17:15.25.
Pallett recorded a time of 17:01.12 on the five-kilometer course, just missing 13th and 14th by a couple of seconds.
Fellow O-K Gold Conference member Forest Hills Eastern was regional champ with 36 points. Wayland accumulated 210. Hopkins boys finished 13th.
Estelle was followed by Kenyon Katje 74th, freshman Isaiah Robinson 81st, freshman Derek Zapolnik 87th, Brennan Villella 96th and Johnathan Buskirk 97th.
Wayland’s Isaac Dyer was 28th in 17:33.49, followed by freshman Xander Stepek 39th, Ethan Manning 52nd and freshman Mason Fein 78th.
The Hopkins girls’ squad, O-K Silver Conference champion, took ninth place in the team derby. Kambria Moored was 26th, Allison Breining 41st, Lillian Dewey 57th, Myah Duimstra 74th and Kaylee Katje 75th.
Elliot Antel was 54th for Wayland, Sarah Osbon 83rd, Megan Stack 87th, Keyli Perez 94th and Alyssa Lawrence 101st.
