The Wayland community is mourning the death of 15-year-old Wayland High School freshman Dallyce Parm, who took her own life Thursday evening.
It was just announced that the funeral for her will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Dorr Bible Church, 1504 142nd Ave., with a time to gather with friends from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. In memory of Dallyce and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Wayland Union Schools Supt. Tim Reeves last week posted a letter to students, parents and the community, extending sympathies and commented, “We know this news will affect our students and staff in different ways. Members of our guidance staff and social work team will be available today, Friday, April 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school media center to provide a safe and supportive space for any students who may need time, space or someone to talk to as they process this loss.”
The superintendent addressed the following to parents and guardians, “We encourage you to check in with your child in the coming days. Conversations at home can play an important role in helping students navigate grief. Each child may respond differently, and it is important to provide reassurance, listen openly and offer consistent support.”
He added that students who need more help can call 988. Tara Foote Wilbur of Dorr has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help the family with funeral expenses.
Dallyce was in her freshman year of high school and had big dreams of playing soccer professionally one day. She loved Takis chips and was a big fan of Doritos as well. She attended Dorr Bible Church, helped in the nursery, and was a natural at caring for littles (likely because of her role as big sister.)
Her family, including her parents, several siblings, church family, dear friends, and the greater Dorr/Wayland community, are understandably heartbroken over the loss. In recent months, Dallyce struggled with her mental health, complicated by depression and being the target of bullying.
Her family members said they are hopeful her story can be used as a reminder to “stay; tomorrow needs you.” Family members said they are grateful to every responder, dispatcher, and officers who provided care and life saving measures.
Dallyce’s family has indicated that a GoFundMe campaign has raised about 85 percent of its goal.
