The Wayland Board of Education Tuesday afternoon had a special emergency meeting to decide the high school will continue to attend classes remotely only for the remainder of the week.

It was reported that the biggest reason for going all virtual was a shortage of staff members available more than student illnesses as a result of the Covid-19 virus. All other schools in the Wayland Union district will continue classroom instruction as before.

The district’s web site listing Coronavirus cases for Tuesday, Jan. 18, reported 29 total cases, with two from the high school despite it goung all-remote.

The special board meeting was called before the start of the community forum on public input for a likely bond proposal next August.

The high school went to all remote last Thursday and Friday and was closed Monday for Martin Luther King Day. The policy on virtual was continued Tuesday.
