Wayland High School graduate Carolyn Kay Boss of Plainwell died Thursday, Feb. 16, at the age of 80.
She was born in Alger, OH on January 24, 1943, the daughter of McCurdy and Thelma (Patrick) Hall.
She married Howard Boss in 1961 at a little white house behind the Wayside Chapel of Otsego. Together they started a family and went on to have six children. For many years she served as the crossing guard for Otsego Public Schools and worked many jobs throughout the years but her main focus was raising her family.
She will be fondly remembered for serving as the neighborhood mother of Otsego, taking in and feeding anyone that came by the house. She was a woman devoted to God and Jesus Christ. Carolyn loved to sing, she would sing to people in her house, visit nursing homes, and even was singing at the hospital prior to passing.
Surviving are her children: Michael (Connie) Boss, Carrie Green, Shawn (Joyce) Boss, Julie (Timothy) Sheffer, and Terry (Soni) Boss; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; siblings: Deanna Preston, Cheryl Ball, Patsy Wuis, Nancy Hall, and Brenda Workman; and many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years: Howard Boss; her parents; daughter: Deann Boss; and twelve brothers and sisters.
In accordance with Carolyn’s wishes, a public service will be held at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes, 120 South Woodhams St., Plainwell, with a time for visiting from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20. The funeral will be held the following day at 11 a.m. with Bill Rose officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest with her husband at Hillside Cemetery immediately following the service.
