Wayland High School student-athlete arrested for credit card misuse

A Wayland HighJohn Gohn School student-athlete was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 3, and released on $500 bond the following day in Kent County.

John Gohn, 17, has been charged with credit card fraud, specifically Financial Transaction Devices (FTD) illegal use/sale.

Gohn, who was listed as 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, was a member of the Wayland junior varsity basketball team, but was suspended last winter for violating team rules. It was not clear whether he figured into the varsity basketball team’s plans this coming season.

Head varsity basketball coach Mike Hudson, athletic director Justin Wilson and Superintendent Norman Taylor were contacted for comment. Neither Hudson nor Wilson responded.

Taylor said in an e-mail, “This is an out of school issue that I am not aware of any details.  As BB practice has not begun yet, I can’t speak to whether this individual is planning to play any sports.
