Wayland Union Schools has hired Adam Valk as new athletic director at Wayland Union High School and Karri Bailey as the new Middle School/High School assistant principal, pending board approval.

Valk, who has been athletic director at Hopkins High School for the past eight years, succeeds Matthew Moffett, who moved to another district. The middle school and high school assistant principal is a new position to serve eighth and ninth grade students.

Valk is a 2007 graduate of Grand Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and elementary education. He received his master’s degree in athletic administration from Central Michigan University in 2014.  He lives in Shelbyville with his wife and two children.

“I look forward to joining Wayland Union Schools and am excited about the opportunity to meet the students, coaches, teachers and community members,” said Valk.

Bailey currently teaches sixth grade at Wayland Union Middle School and has worked here since 2008. She was technology consultant at the school for one year, She has served on a district-wide committees for curriculum, technology, grade level and Back-to-School Kick-off.

Bailey earned her master’s of education in instruction and curriculum from Grand Valley State University in 2011 and her bachelor of science in Elementary Education from Ferris State University in 2008.

She is married to Mike, a WUS alum, and has three daughters.

Bailey commented, “I’m looking forward to serving our students, staff, and community in this capacity!”
