Wayland Invitational dance competition planned for Saturday

The Wayland InvitationaWHS varsity dance teaml dance competition will get under way at the Wayland High School gym at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23.

Fourteen different teams have indicated they will participate, including Jenison varsity, Forest Hills Central varsity, Byron Center West Middle, West Ottawa varsity, Byron Center Nickels Intermediate, Durand varsity, East Kentwood varsity, Rockford varsity, Byron Center varsity, Forest Hills Eastern varsity, Grandville varsity, Grandville junior varsity and Rockford Middle School.

The Wayland Do it Best Hardware is the sponsor for the competition.

This is only the second year Wayland has been host for an invitational dance competition.

The theme this year is “Neon Vibe.”

Doors open to public at 9:30 a.m. and competition will commence at 9:45 am. There is a $5 admission for spectators.

The day will include a special performance by Grand Valley State University Laker dance team, Wayland Middle School, the Wayland varsity dance team and soloist Evan Cater of the Wayland varsity.

During the competition there also will be a bake sale going on the raise money for the local team, video recordings of the competition for sale, and shirts getting screen printed with custom designs. The awards ceremony will take place after all performances and the competition will end around 3 p.m.
