Greetings from the Cajun south:

Mark Wakeman

I recently saw somewhere (can’t find it now ) an old photo of the intersection of Superior and Main Street in Wayland with a traffic light hanging in the air. I have what is possibly an incorrect memory of Wayland getting its first traffic light around 1956 or ’57, and it was a big deal, with the band playing and a speech from Village President Phil Reno, and then throwing the switch.

Perhaps this is something I made up long ago, and after repeating it to myself for decades I’ve come to believe it happened. Did it? I know we had our Cowbell Carnival, and elected our Cowbell Queen, but now I’m not sure about the traffic light.

Thanks, David, I come to you for the truth. I liked your opinion on the weed issue, too, though if it had been legal 50 years ago, I wouldn’t have led the life I did.
