Jacob Scot Damron, 22, of Wayland, was sentenced in Allegan County Circuit Court to seven to 15 years in prison in the fatal traffic crash in Heath Township last summer that killed newlyweds Logan and Hannah Allbaugh.

It was determined that Damron was influenced by medical marijuana and speeding when he ran a stop sign last July 17 at the intersection of 128th Avenue and M-40. Authorities said he was also was taking an antidepressant and at the time, and was seeking medical treatment for what he believes was narcolepsy, according to defense attorney Matthew Antkoviak.

Damron initially was charged with seven felonies, including two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death, two counts of reckless driving causing death, and one count each of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, reckless driving causing serious injury and illegally carrying a concealed handgun in his vehicle.

In a plea agreement for pleading no contest to the first two charges, the other five charges were dropped.

Damron was given credit for 50 days already served in jail and was ordered to pay more than $4,000 in restitution to the families of the Allbaughs and another person injured in the crash.

Friends and family of the newlyweds packed the courtroom during sentencing.
