It was a historic evening at the Ron Stehouwer football stadium Tuesday, as both the Wayland (cover photo) and Martin High School marching bands earned Division I (excellent) ratings. The occasion was Wayland’s first-ever status as host of a Michigan High School Band and Orchestra Association district festival, which beckoned performances of 10 area marching units. The feature in Wayland’s performance was “Are We There Yet?” in honor of long family trips. Director of the Wayland band is Kelli Tilley Smith. Martin’s director is Noah Miller.
