The Wayland girls’ basketball team Tuesday night lifted its overall season record to 13-6 by getting past non-league opponent Grand Rapids Coveant Christian, 54-47.
Senior ace Harmony Laker, nearing the end of her school record breaking prep career, paced the Wildcats’ offensive attack with 15 points. She got plenty of scoring help from junior Addie Sikorski and sophomore Marissa Ainsworth, both of whom contributed 14 points.
Harmony, who plans to play hoops next year for Cedarville University (Ohio) was the only Wildcat to nail a three, which she did twice.

The Lady Clippers posted their fourth straight win and notched their fifth straight game in which they scored at least 40 points. They lifted their overall season record to 8-10.
“We’re so proud of the girls for coming away with this win,” said coach Ben Schipper. “It showed so much growth for us in many different areas. We have lost five, one-possession or overtime games this year. We were only up by two with 2:30 left and instead of crumbling under the pressure, we performed when it mattered most.
“Kayden Jager and Avery Jager each knocked down two clutch free throws with less than 1:20 left to extend our lead. Our defense got stops at the end and we finished the possessions with strong rebounds.
“At times where there was confusion or things weren’t going exactly as planned in our press break, our girls improvised and made plays.”
Sophomore Anna Jager scored a career high 18 points, hitting two threes, one at the buzzer before half, and knifing through the press getting some coast to coast buckets.
Sophomore guard teammate Kayden Jager finished with nine points, going 6-6 from the free throw line. Torryn Harris scored 10 points on 5 for 8 shooting.
Marybeth Ritchie: contributed six points and 9 rebounds.
