Career Day (68)Wayland Middle School held a Career Day for seventh and eighth grade students Wednesday, with more than 40 volunteers from the community speaking to students about their professions.  They talked about education requirements, salary, job duties/responsibilities, and the employment outlook for their particular field.

Middle School Guidance Counselor Shelby VanKuiken coordinated the event for the school. She said she was pleased with the community’s response to volunteer for this event. She selected careers to represent the “Career Cruising” categories. Career Cruising is offered to middle school students as a way to begin to explore various careers and areas of interest before they reach high school.

Students asked a lot of great questions and learned a great deal at the event.

“We are thankful for all the businesses and community partners that came together to help out at our first Career Day,” said Middle School Principal Carolyn Whyte. “We wouldn’t have been able to do it without them!”
