After narrowing the achievement gap between top and bottom performing students, Wayland Union Middle School has been removed from the state’s focus school list, according to a press release from the Michigan Department of Education.
Focus Schools consist of the 10 percent of schools on the Top-to-Bottom list with the largest achievement gaps between its top 30 percent of students and its bottom 30 percent, based on average scale score. The middle school was placed on the list in 2013.
“Wayland Union Middle School utilizes multi-tiered systems of support to meet the needs of all learners,” said Wayland Middle School Principal Carolyn Whyte. “The Wayland Union Middle School staff and students should be commended for all of their hard work both inside and outside of the classroom.”
Director of Instruction Teresa Fulk said, “We are very proud of the work that is being done in all of our buildings to help all students achieve at higher levels.”
