Wayland police nab Portage man for storage unit break-ins

A 40-year-old Portage man was arrested Saturday night on charges of breaking and entering at Wayland Self Storage.

A Wayland City Police officer said he spotted a suspicious vehicle at the storage buildings and was able to sneak up on the suspect and captured him. He was caught with bolt cutters breaking into the storage units. The officer ordered the man to the ground and he complied.

Backup was requested and an Allegan County deputy arrived in less than a minute. Gun Lake Tribal officers were en route to assist as well.

The suspect was cuffed and lodged at Allegan County jail. The suspect was charged with three counts of breaking and entering, one count of attempted breaking and entering, one count of possession of burglar tools, and habitual offender fourth offense.

Police Chief Mark Garnsey said, “I’m proud to say our Wayland officer made a very good arrest. Thanks goes out to our partners in the Allegan County Sheriff’s and Gun Lake Tribal Police Departments.”

    Good job Wayland P.D.
After four offenses we must ponder if he will commit a fifth?
