The issue of branding came up again at Monday night’s Wayland Board of Education meeting, and school officials again tried to explain the matter as best they could.

Essentially, school officials have stressed that no changes in the Wildcat logo have been made, at least not for official Wayland High sports apparel and on athletic uniforms.

Citizen Anthony Winters, who has kept the issue alive on line, told school board members , all athletic apparel should be be the same, but he understands that some of the younger athletic groups have added different decals and logos on their football helmets, especially because all teams use the same taxpayer-funded fields.

Board President Theresa Dobry said no changes in school logos have been made, insisting, “We’ve had discussion, but not decisions.”

Supt. Tim Reeves said, “There are no plans to make any changes or add any logos.”

Board Treasurer Pete Zondervan said, “We need to have an overarching branding policy.”

Board member Jeff Koon said, “We need to bring closure to this issue.”

In other business at Monday’s meeting, the board:

• Approved the appointments of Norm Taylor and Becky Honke to be the school’s representatives to the Michigan Association of School Boards assembly later this fall.
• Rejected a proposal to change Neola policy on school districts; roles in helping students get abortions, electing instead to stick with the old policy from seven years ago.
• Was told by Reeves that high school seniors have been granted use of a “seniors’ parking lot as long as they keep the area clean. Some students already have painted their parking spaces.
