Computers are everywhere, but fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago. Girls and minorities are severely under represented. Students in Kelly Boston’s media class participated in the Hour of Code, where students learned about computer coding. The Hour of Code is a nationwide program encouraging 100 million students to try one hour of code to introduce them to the world of computer science. Students can go to www.code.org to find activities to learn about coding using age appropriate games such as Star Wars, Minecraft and Disney’s Frozen. (Photo courtesy of Laurie Zywiczynski)
