Scott Larson

Sarah Parr Hawkins

Scott Larson was introduced to members of the Wayland Board of Education Monday night as the new food service director.

Larson, who most recently was assistant food service director at Wyoming Godwin Heights, succeeds Sarah Parr Hawkins, who is leaving to take the same post at ForestHills Central.

Wayland Schools Finance Director Pat Velie said Larson is a chef by trade.

Hawkins came to Wayland in 2014 and implemented some innovations in the local district’s food service, most notably with former Director of Finance Bill Melching in launching the free summer meals program. She tol the school board Monday night that the program, now in its third year, served more than 10,000 meals to young people under 18 years of age.

The program is self-funding with the help of several sponsors and from grants received, about $5,000 of which will provide seed money for next summer.

Hawkins’ last day was to be Tuesday and staff were planning a going away party for her.
